As many as 1,029 motorists were caught for driving under the influence of alcohol during special enforcement drives conducted by the traffic police across Hyderabad, Cyberabad and Malkajgiri commissionerates, with two-wheeler riders accounting for the majority of violations.
The Hyderabad Traffic Police booked the highest number of offenders at 480 during a two-day drive on October 9 and 10, followed by 284 in Malkajgiri during the week ending October 10 and 265 in Cyberabad during its weekend enforcement drive. In Malkajgiri, the traffic police apprehended 284 motorists between October 4 and 10.
Meanwhile, the Cyberabad Traffic Police caught 265 motorists during its weekend drive, including 237 two-wheeler riders, five three-wheeler drivers, 20 four-wheeler drivers and three heavy vehicle drivers.
Courts dispose of 257 cases
Separately, courts disposed of 257 drunk driving cases registered in Malkajgiri and Cyberabad during the preceding week.
