What the award recognises
The certificate was issued to the late Right Honourable Raila Amolo Odinga in recognition of his lifelong dedication to democracy, justice and good governance — not only within Kenya but across Africa and beyond.
"This recognition celebrates his lifelong struggle for democracy, justice and good governance, not only in Kenya but across Africa and the world," Ida wrote in her post, adding that Baba's legacy continues to inspire generations to pursue a fairer world.
Raila, who served multiple terms as prime minister and as an opposition leader who was central to Kenya's democratic movement, died in October 2025.
His death prompted an outpouring of grief from Kenyans across the political divide, as well as tributes from leaders across the continent.

Kenyans react
The post drew an emotional response from Kenyans who had followed Raila's political journey closely.
Jacob Mwanza said:
"Mama Ida, you are a true ambassador of peace for our nation. When tensions threatened to disrupt Baba's memorial ceremony, your words of wisdom helped defuse the situation and preserve the dignity of the occasion. Kenya needs more leaders who unite people rather than divide them."
Keta Mandela wrote:
"And that Posthumous Award come through our Support we real Baba's Supporters"
Mary Ariviza added simply:
"Baba Raila lives in our lives forever!"
Beryl Akinyi Nyayiera commented:
"I just love how you compose yourself min piny"
Alphonce Owili Pacho offered:
"Baba was right and he will remain right even In death"
Why was Ida not part of the entourage that repatriated Raila's remains?
TUKO.co.ke also highlighted facts about Ida’s decision to remain in Kenya after initially agreeing to travel to India to bring home Raila’s body.
After seeing mourners gather at Opoda Farm and across Nyamira and Migori, Ida said she wondered who would coordinate events at home if she left.
Her daughter Winnie and sister-in-law Ruth were already in India, so she stayed behind to receive them the following morning.
