- NPS has now called on the public and the media to remain calm, as investigations take place.
The National Police Service (NPS) has vowed to cooperate with IPOA in its ongoing investigations following the arrest of Royal Media Services (RMS) journalist Francis Ode.
In a statement on Thursday, NPS said it would cooperate fully and provide all necessary support to facilitate a thorough, credible, and expeditious investigation.
It added that the NPS Internal Affairs Unit (IAU), upon receipt of the report, commenced an investigation to establish the facts and circumstances surrounding the incident.
NPS further stressed its continued efforts to strengthen cooperation and professional working relationships with the media, saying that it would continue to offer the necessary support to journalists in the performance of their duties.
“A free and responsible media remains a critical partner in the promotion of public confidence in policing and our robust democratic space,” NPS noted.
NPS has now called on the public and the media to remain calm, as investigations take place.
It has also encouraged anyone with additional information relevant to the matter to report it at the nearest police station or through NPS emergency contact numbers.
The statement comes after the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) announced plans to visit Central Police Station as part of its ongoing investigations into the incident.
