Air Canada has cancelled a notable flight from Vancouver International Airport (YVR) to a popular U.S. destination for partiers and country music fans.
The direct flight from YVR to Nashville, scheduled to return in May 2027 with four weekly services planned, has been axed.
Further, a flight from YVR to North Carolina’s Raleigh-Durham International Airport, which was also supposed to return in May of next year with three weekly flights, has been removed.
“Air Canada regularly reviews its schedule to ensure capacity is aligned with customer demand and travel patterns. As part of that process, we have made a commercial decision to adjust some routes next summer,” said Sean Davidson, a spokesperson with Air Canada, in an email to Daily Hive.
He added that Air Canada will continue to serve Nashville and Raleigh-Durham from other Canadian airports, including from Toronto.
“The leisure-focused nature of some of the markets and the increased fuel price did not help. Two of the routes were transcontinental offerings from YVR, with higher operating expenses. They were perhaps especially susceptible to removal, especially as the fares and yields were probably not overly good,” reads a post from Simple Flying that analyzed some of Air Canada’s cuts.
Nashville, the capital city of Tennessee, is known for its robust country music scene and is home to a number of music legends, including Aretha Franklin, Tina Turner, and Dolly Parton.
The city has also become a hot-spot destination for bachelor and bachelorette trips, even earning the title of “bachelorette capital of the world” in 2019, according to CNN.
The Raleigh-Durham International Airport serves Raleigh, the capital of North Carolina.
While Air Canada reduced the route in 2026 by 27 per cent, the route’s performance remained poor, eventually leading to the complete cut.
