That’s how much federal funding Massachusetts has lost or seen disrupted during the Trump administration, according to the Lost Funds Project, a tracker by Grant Witness and the States United Democracy Center that has counted $174 billion in canceled and slowed funding nationwide. The hardest hit sector in Massachusetts is the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, which faced $1.83 billion in funding slowdowns before the money was eventually restored. Health funding disruptions totaled $2.4 billion, including $1.31 billion in frozen biomedical education grants and $217 million in science research. Disaster relief was cut by about $406 million. Massachusetts filed 81 lawsuits and says it has helped protect $3.9 billion in federal funding. Nationally, states have joined together to file 23 lawsuits that have helped restore about $35 billion.
