In a major boost to digital skill development and youth employability in the state, as many as 1,449 young men and women from across Tripura have successfully completed the first phase of the Digital Employability Enhancement Program (DSD-DEEP) and were awarded certificates under the Chief Minister’s Skill Development Scheme.
The initiative is aimed at equipping aspiring jobseekers with industry-relevant digital competencies and enhancing their prospects in an increasingly technology-driven labour market.
The certificates were distributed to successful trainees during a programme organised at the conference hall of the Directorate of Skill Development on Wednesday. The event marked a significant milestone in the implementation of the state government's efforts to bridge the digital skills gap and prepare youth for emerging employment opportunities.
According to information released by the Directorate of Skill Development, the first phase of DSD-DEEP is being implemented through MKCL and covers 2,000 trainees across the state. Training is being conducted through 20 Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) and seven private computer centres, ensuring broader geographical reach and accessibility.
All 2,000 available seats under the programme have already been filled, reflecting the growing demand among young people for digital education and career-oriented training. Of the enrolled candidates, 1,449 have successfully completed the course and received certification so far.
Designed to make digital education accessible to youths near their places of residence, the programme offers structured training spanning 120 hours. The curriculum focuses on practical and job-oriented subjects such as data management using Microsoft Excel, DEEP-ITS, mobile application development, desktop publishing and Banking, Financial Services and Insurance (BFSI). The training modules have been developed to provide participants with hands-on expertise and familiarity with tools widely used across modern workplaces.
Officials said the programme seeks to align the skills of young jobseekers with current industry requirements. By imparting practical digital knowledge, the initiative aims to improve employability in offices, commercial establishments and service-sector organisations, both within Tripura and in other parts of the country. The training is expected to help participants adapt to changing workplace demands where digital proficiency has become an essential requirement.
With computers, smartphones and digital platforms now forming an integral part of professional and business activities, the importance of technological literacy continues to grow across sectors. Recognising this shift, the programme complements existing technical and vocational training by enabling candidates to develop expertise in spreadsheet operations, document management and digital financial services. Such capabilities can significantly enhance employment opportunities while also encouraging entrepreneurship and self-employment among young people.
Encouraged by the response to the first phase, the Directorate of Skill Development is preparing to launch the second phase of DSD-DEEP in the near future. Authorities are currently restructuring the curriculum to make it more beneficial for ITI students by integrating digital competencies with technical trades, thereby creating a stronger foundation for future employment and career advancement.
The Directorate congratulated all successful trainees on completing the programme and expressed confidence that the newly acquired skills would help them build successful careers and contribute meaningfully to the state's growing digital economy.
