Colombo, Oct. 23 (Daily Mirror) - Train services between Rambukkana, Peradeniya and Gampola will be temporarily suspended on October 24 and 25 due to a landslide near Kadigamuwa Railway Station, the Railways Department said.
Superintendent of Railways (Traffic) G.D.A. Samarasinghe said the landslide, triggered by adverse weather conditions, has washed soil onto the railway line between Rambukkana and Peradeniya, creating a safety risk to train operations.
The department has scheduled emergency repair work for Saturday (24) and Sunday (25) to clear the affected area and restore the railway line to a safe condition.
All train services on the affected sections will remain suspended during the repair period.
Passengers who have purchased reserved seats at railway stations for travel on the two days will be entitled to a full refund of the amount paid, the department said.
The Railways Department apologised to passengers for the inconvenience caused by the cancellations and requested the public to take note of the temporary suspension when planning their journeys.
