The Presidential Palace in Nicosia will open its doors for a two-day Christmas village on December 19 and 20, with food, music and products from businesses and craftspeople across Cyprus.
The event will run from 11am to 8pm on both days, with the palace’s small theatre and surrounding grounds transformed into a festive village. Organisers said it would feature cultural activities, children’s entertainment and authentic Cypriot creations, and would be aimed at families.
The initiative has been launched by First Lady Philippa Karsera Christodoulides, in cooperation with the Deputy Ministry of Tourism and the Press and Information Office. It is intended to support and promote small and medium-sized businesses and creators from all parts of the island.
Organisers said the village would give the public the chance to discover and support local production, tradition and contemporary Cypriot creativity.
The event also forms part of a wider effort to showcase emblematic sites with a special history and symbolism, such as the Presidential Palace, and to strengthen their relationship with society through cultural events, charitable work and support for enterprise.
As in previous years, the village will have a charitable element. Businesses and craft producers selling their goods will be asked to donate 10% of their takings to a cause that will be announced shortly.
