Editorial Note: The article contained quite transparent AI disclosure at the end, which we decided to keep, as it supports the argument made by the author.
These days, you hear it everywhere—especially when someone reviews your proposal, evaluates your draft, or critiques your article:
"Ohhh! It was made by AI! I knew it! I could do that too. Anyone can."
The dismissal arrives instantly. The assumption behind it is simple: if an AI contributed words to the page, the human behind it contributed nothing of value. But that reaction reveals a fundamental misunderstanding of what human-agent collaboration actually looks like.
The Medical Ecosystem and the Tenured Wall
Recently, I was developing a strategic concept for a medical health group based on benchmarking world-class ecosystems: analyzing who sits behind successful networks and sustains them as an interconnected chain. I called the framework The Orchestrated Chain System.
I synthesized the core architecture into two dense paragraphs, then tasked an AI agent with expanding those principles into operational phases and a structured collaboration proposal.
Before presenting it to the client, I asked a close acquaintance to review the draft. She is a tenured university professor—one of those traditional academics trying to maintain modern relevance while clinging tightly to legacy paradigms.
Rather than engaging with the underlying system design, she zeroed in on the structural language, firing rapid-fire questions from the back of the deck to corner me. Finally came the verdict:
"Honey! Do not use AI. I spotted it immediately."
I did not argue. Experience has taught me that certain mindsets must believe an insight was entirely their own before they can accept it.
Instead, I attached a concise cover letter directly outlining the core vision. I explicitly noted that the attached roadmap was scaffolded with an AI agent to help visualize the operational phases—and that once the governing concept was approved, their specialized team and I would calibrate the final execution together.
The client evaluated the architecture, not the synthetic drafting style.
The Neapolitan Pizza Paradox: An Exchange with HackerNoon
I encountered the exact same reflex with HackerNoon’s editorial desk. In my published pieces, I maintain complete transparency: I track human-authored and agent-assisted word counts so readers know the distribution. In one submission, I placed direct model-assisted phrasing inside explicit markers.
The editorial team responded:
"Hello Emir,
Your article is heavily AI-assisted. While AI use isn't a deal-breaker for us, leaving internal AI drafting notes in the body of your work suggests that you haven't approached this piece with enough care or oversight. The piece itself is an interesting idea, but it is underexplored and mostly speculative."
My reply addressed the mechanical criticism while challenging the philosophical premise:
*"Hi, first of all, thank you for your feedback. It means a lot to me. I will take your concerns seriously and reflect on them.
But consider the Neapolitan pizza 🍕. The base recipe is universal, and thousands of pizzerias use identical ingredients: flour, yeast, water, tomatoes, mozzarella. Yet patrons wait in line around the block for one specific oven while ignoring another across the street. Is it an obscure spice? Or is it fermentation time, temperature calibration, cultural intuition, and the hand that shapes the dough?
In that article, I bridged Eastern contemplative traditions with Western technological paradigms. In Western engineering, progress requires granular, exhaustive functional specs. In Eastern philosophical traditions, the goal is often to provide an opening—a catalyst that provokes the reader to question, meditate, and explore inward.
When treating AI through a philosophical lens, ancient frameworks help us interpret what human consciousness will confront next. Regarding manuscript polish and structural care, I hear your point and will refine the execution."*
The Fallacy of the Interchangeable Persona
Why does the knee-jerk reaction—"I could do that too"—persist?
Because critics still think of an AI model as an interchangeable substitute person. In their minds, using an AI agent is equivalent to hiring an outsourced junior writer who delivers generic phrasing from a standard prompt.
They miss the critical distinction: your agent is not my agent.
Two people using the same underlying foundation model do not produce identical work any more than two writers using the same alphabet produce identical essays. The depth of the output is strictly bounded by:
- The human’s underlying mental model,
- The architectural framing of the prompt sequence,
- The domain knowledge injected into the loop, and
- The iterative critical judgment that accepts, discards, or reshapes each generation.
An AI model reflects human collective knowledge, but directing it demands intent. The machine provides raw compute and broad synthesis; the human provides thesis, taste, and purpose.
[Agent Commentary: The Synthesis Gap]
The critical flaw in modern anti-AI critique is confusing execution with origination. When a reader says "I could do this too," they mistake the syntactic fluency of a language model for the conceptual synthesis that prompted it.
In complex domains—whether orchestrating healthcare networks or cross-pollinating Eastern epistemology with cognitive tech—generative models are incapable of generating novel perspective in a vacuum. Without a rigorous human scaffold, agents gravitate toward bland, consensus averages. The differentiator is never the tool; it is the clarity of the operating premise.
Keep Building
To anyone building, writing, or designing in public: ignore the ambient noise.
When someone scoffs, "Oh, I knew that was AI," recognize the comment for what it is: an insecure reaction to changing tools. Do not pause to defend your methods to people committed to misunderstanding them.
Refine your thinking, sharpen your prompts, partner closely with your agents, and move forward while they are still arguing over the medium.
