Nollywood actress Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde’s first daughter, Princess Ekeinde, has opened up about the pressure of growing up in a famous family, saying the struggles celebrity children face are often overlooked.
During an interview on The Chat Room, Princess shared that as the first child and daughter, she feels responsible for her family’s legacy and reputation. She also mentioned that people often compare her to her mother in beauty, talent, and status.
“Trying to keep your family legacy” is one of the struggles she faces, adding that “the mantle is on me to represent the family well.” She also stressed the importance of recognising her individuality, saying, “First of all, I am not Omotola, I am Princess.”
Princess wondered why people think she should follow her mother’s career just because Omotola loves acting. She explained that people often tell celebrity children what to do, which makes it hard for them to choose their own paths.
She added that the pressure gets even stronger when they make mistakes, since the public often links their actions to their parents. She said people stop seeing them as individuals and only see them through their famous family members.
Princess said that worrying about making their families look bad is a big burden. She emphasized, “that pressure is real, is a lot.”
