I’m a big believer in magic. And no, I don’t mean a slight of hand or even “Wingardium Leviosa.” I’m talking more along the lines of manifestation, believing in the universe, and channeling energy. Oh, and of course, the occasional magical spell.
Magic has been my place to turn to whenever I feel stuck or overwhelmed. It’s my way of “covering all my bases” when I’m desperate to make things in my life go my way. And while I don’t necessarily think that a puff of smoke and incantation will change the trajectory of my life, I do think that when you put certain intentions into the universe—and throw in a candle or two— the universe listens. You just have to know what you’re doing. Enter: The Etsy Witch.
An Etsy witch is exactly as you’d assume: a person of the occult who happens to offer their services on Etsy.com. Witches offering their services on that platform is actually nothing new, but recently, they’ve becoming increasingly popular—enough that “Etsy Witch” is increasingly just another way to say “witch”.
For a while now, content creators have gone viral for sharing their experiences hiring Etsy witches to cast spells for them: spells to land jobs, ward off enemies, and even influence sports games. And of course, there are love spells.
A love and devotion spell isn’t exactly what you expect—it’s not meant to make anyone fall in love with you. They’re done with the idea that the spell will remove blockages in your love life and unleash whatever potential may already be there. I know this, because I’ve paid an Etsy witch (a few times) to do these spells for me.
There have been times in my love life where it felt like I couldn’t discern gut feelings from anxiety. And while I went to therapy, prayed, and vented to my friends about it, I just felt like I needed an extra push to help things along. So I contacted Freya the Wildwood Witch—an Etsy witch that had gone viral on TikTok.
Freya has been a practicing witch for more than two decades now, and can trace witchcraft back in her lineage for generations. She started off with tarot readings and eventually graduated to spell castings.

Which is exactly what I asked Freya to do for me (a few times). And every time I’ve had a romantic blockage, reaching out to Freya has helped me get out of it. So I asked my favorite Etsy witch to break down everything you need to know about the love spell—you know, in case you were interested.
Why Do People Buy Love Spells?

Freya’s work is rooted in melting away energetic blocks. And while she doesn’t do any advertising, people often seek her out. She tells me that people have become more curious about consciousness, mental energy, and manifestation.
“People are becoming more aware of how our own energy directly influences our experience,” she says. “What we put out shapes what comes back to us, and magic is the oldest form of manifestation there is. People have practiced it for thousands of years.”
She explains that people often come to her when they don’t get the response in love that they want. Now, Freya doesn’t cast spells to change someone’s mind—she simply helps put the desire out into the universe and reports back what she “sees.”
“My readings and spells give people permission to trust what they truly want, to listen to their heart, and to look at themselves.”
Are Love Spells Worth It?
While anyone with $30 can buy a spell from Freya, she says that there’s a certain kind of person that a love spell works best for. First, the person needs to believe in their own request.
“The spell carries your intention, which includes your belief about your worth and ability,” she says. “If your intention is full of doubt then it creates a huge barrier for the energy to unfold.”
While Freya “makes the call” to the universe, it’s you who has to “pick up the phone.”
She says that the best people for the spell are those who are patient and understand that energy takes time to move and unfold. They also understand that love on the right terms might look different than what they imagined.
“Energy unfolds in ways we don’t expect, and sometimes things have to stir into a bit of chaos first to clear the path ahead.”
But if you don’t believe that something could come out of the spell, it may be best to steer clear. “Spells can amplify, focus, direct and enhance energy,” Freya says. “But, if you truly don't believe it can work, I'd gently say wait until you're ready.”
