Back in August, a wide-ranging Ridley Scott interview with The LA Times left Alien fans with a tantalising smoking gun: the octogenarian auteur still wants to make a third and final Alien prequel movie centred around Michael Fassbender's sinister AI David. And while we've yet to receive further word from Scott on such a film, this evening THR has revealed something that could prove to be a key piece in that particular puzzle's assembly. Aaron Guzikowski, who collaborated with Sir Ridders on Raised By Wolves and also wrote Prisoners, has been tapped to write a new Alien movie at 20th Century Studios.
Per THR's reporting, Guzikowski — who created Raised By Wolves, on which Ridley Scott served as executive producer and two-episode director — is currently penning a mystery Xenomorph flick to be released under the Scott Free production banner. While specifics on the project are being shrouded in secrecy for the time being, we do know two things. Firstly, this isn't the currently in development sequel to Alien: Romulus — or anything to do with Noah Hawley's forthcoming Alien: Earth Season 2 for that matter. Secondly, and far more interestingly, THR's sources indicate that this project is connected to Prometheus and Alien: Covenant, with the common thread being — you guessed it! — Fassbender's David. Crucially however, Michael Fassbender hasn't signed on for anything at this stage.
Should Guzikowski's mystery Alien movie turn out to be Scott's mooted prequel trilogy caper, then we know from Scott himself that the plan would be for Fassbender to reprise his role as rogue AI android David in a movie that'd continue to explore the ramifications of malfunctioning artificial intelligence as the soft-spoken but incredibly sinister synth creates "a brave new world for himself." Now, of course, Guzikowski's film could turn out to be nothing to do with that idea at all. But it also could, and as Prometheus and Covenant truthers here at Empire HQ, we're choosing to believe we'll see David again someday. Watch this space!
