Michigan State football’s first season under head coach Pat Fitzgerald has not gone according to plan so far, and another concern has emerged ahead of the team’s next game. Spartans quarterback Alessio Milivojevic remains a significant question mark heading into Saturday’s Big Ten matchup against the No. 9 UCLA Bruins.
College football senior reporter Pete Thamel confirms that the quarterback has yet to be cleared for the upcoming game.
“Michigan State QB Alessio Milivojevic remains questionable on the Big Ten availability report for the UCLA game,” Thamel wrote.

Milivojevic’s potential absence could make an already difficult challenge even more complicated for Michigan State. The quarterback has started the Spartans’ last 11 games, including the final four games of the 2025 season.
If Milivojevic is unable to play, freshman quarterback Kayd Coffman could be called upon to lead the offense despite having yet to attempt a pass in a collegiate game. Meanwhile, Cam Fancher has already been ruled out for the second consecutive week.
However, Milivojevic being listed as questionable does not necessarily mean he will miss Saturday’s game. The initial availability report did not specify the nature of his injury or explain what led to the uncertainty surrounding his status.
The quarterback is not the only Michigan State offensive player whose status remains uncertain. Running back Jaziun Patterson and offensive lineman Ben Murawski are also listed as questionable, while running back Darrin Jones Jr. is another player whose availability could influence the Spartans’ offensive depth and game plan.
The uncertainty comes at a challenging point in Michigan State’s season following a disappointing 2025 season. The Spartans have dropped five straight games and are still searching for their first Big Ten win.
After opening the season with a 2-0 record, Michigan State has since struggled to maintain its momentum and enters the UCLA matchup at 2-5 overall and 0-4 in conference play.
Meanwhile, UCLA has enjoyed a perfect start to its season, entering the game with a 6-0 overall record and a 4-0 mark in Big Ten action.
