At the peak of her fame in 1989, Kim made headlines for purchasing the small town of Braselton, Georgia, for $20 million with plans to turn it into a tourist destination and movie studio site.
However, her financial troubles began in 1993 after she backed out of starring in the film Boxing Helena. She was sued by Main Line Pictures for breach of contract, resulting in an $8.9 million court judgment against her.
The combination of the hefty legal judgment and her ill-fated real estate investment forced Kim to file for Chapter 11 bankruptcy.
She eventually settled the Boxing Helena lawsuit on appeal for a reduced sum of around $3.8 million, but she was forced to sell her holdings in Braselton at a huge loss.

Despite the financial blow, Kim staged a massive career comeback. In 1997, she starred as Lynn Bracken in L.A. Confidential, a role that earned her the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress, a Golden Globe, and a SAG Award. The critical acclaim revived her standing in Hollywood and restored her earning power.

Her renewed success was followed up with roles in big studio films, such as 8 Mile alongside Eminem, The Sentinel, The Nice Guys, and the Fifty Shades franchise.
Today, Kim's net worth is estimated to be approximately $10 million according to celebritynetworth.com. This has been built back up with steady acting work, real estate holdings and endorsement deals.
