South African-founded travel technology company KnowRoaming has launched KR.One, a universal travel eSIM that users install once and then use for every trip they take thereafter.
Founded in 2012, KnowRoaming provides connectivity across more than 200 destinations, offering access to multiple networks in each, and has built up experience both selling directly to consumers and enabling travel connectivity for brands and digital platforms globally.
Rather than downloading and installing a new eSIM each time they travel abroad, KR.One users keep a single eSIM profile on their device, and simply add a destination-specific data plan through the KnowRoaming app ahead of each new journey.
“Travellers tell us they love the flexibility and savings that eSIMs offer but hate having to install a new one for every trip. It’s frustrating having to scan QR codes at the airport and delete old profiles, while hoping it all works when they land,” said Michael Roffey, executive director at KnowRoaming.
“With KR.One we’ve removed that friction. You install it once and, for every trip after that, simply add the plan you need. It’s easier, more convenient and can deliver savings of up to 75 per cent compared to traditional roaming.”
The launch comes as the company expands its presence across Africa, which IATA data shows is one of the world’s fastest-growing air travel markets. African airline passenger demand grew by 9.4 per cent in 2025, well ahead of the 5.3 per cent global growth rate. KnowRoaming plans to expand into key African markets over the next 12 to 24 months.
KR.One is supported by a redesigned KnowRoaming app, through which customers can buy plans, monitor usage and manage connectivity across destinations. The company says the product will pave the way for future offerings aimed at frequent travellers and businesses.
“Whether they’re navigating a new city, making a payment or booking transport, travellers need to know they’ll be connected the moment they arrive,” said Roffey.
