TOKYO (TR) – Tokyo Metropolitan Police have arrested a pharmacy manager and a company president for the illegal sale of prescription medications, including the diabetes drug Mounjaro, reports Nippon News Network (Oct. 22).
According to police, Wang Pei, a Chinese national and manager of First Beauty Pharmacy, and Satoshi Hatori, the president of the pharmacy’s operating company, are accused of selling the restricted medication to four individuals who did not possess valid prescriptions between January and June of this year.
Investigators allege the pair used social media to lure in customers, primarily targeting Chinese nationals, and sold the drugs at prices significantly higher than standard retail value.
Police believe the illicit operation has raked in approximately 65 million yen in sales to date.
Authorities have not disclosed whether the two suspects have admitted to or denied the allegations.
