(ANSA) - ROME, 14 OTT - Strict privacy is being maintained at Rome's Agostino Gemelli University Hospital on the first day of Pope Leo XIV's stay following the lung-cancer surgery he underwent Tuesday.
The 71-year-old Chicago-born pontiff is hospitalized on the tenth floor, accompanied by the Papal Household; the area is off-limits to visitors, and few at the hospital seem willing to share even the slightest detail regarding the American Pontiff's recovery.
"We want to ensure he gets plenty of rest," say some hospital staff members.
Leo has, however, received a few tributes.
Late in the morning, three bouquets of white flowers arrived; Gendarmerie officers ensured they were delivered to the private ward on the tenth floor, which is dedicated exclusively to the Pontiff.
Surgeons removed the entire lower lobe of the pope's right lung.
He is expected to make a full recovery. (ANSA).
