Lumding, Oct 25: The body of a 35-year-old woman was recovered from a house in the Kalibari Shantipara area of Ward No. 2 in Lumding on Sunday morning, with injury marks on her face and head raising questions about the circumstances surrounding her death.
The deceased, identified as Tara Kurmi, was found unresponsive at the house where she had been living. Police reached the spot after receiving information about the incident and launched an investigation.
Injury marks were reportedly noticed on Kurmi’s face and head. Her mobile phone is also reported missing from the premises, though the circumstances surrounding its absence remain unclear.
According to Kurmi’s sister, the family had no information about what had transpired before her death. She said she rushed to the house after receiving a call that her sister was not waking up, only to find her dead.
“We don’t know what happened. My child was here, and I had come to take my child, but the child did not want to go. Today, I got a call saying that my sister is not waking up, so I came home and found her dead. I don’t doubt anyone,” she said.
She added that Kurmi had a son and that her husband lived in Bokajan.
A local resident said they received information about the incident between 10.30 am and 11 am and went to check on the woman.
“I got a call around 10.30 to 11 morning saying that she wasn’t waking up, so I came and checked on her. She was dead,” the resident said.
The cause of death and the sequence of events leading up to it have not yet been established. Police are investigating the case.
