We've got a battle for Nebraska high school football supremacy on our hands Friday, Oct. 23.
Two of the state's top programs will collide when undefeated Omaha Westside travels to take on undefeated Millard South in a Class A showdown. Both the Warriors and Patriots enter at 8-0, with the game carrying major implications for the Nebraska high school football playoff picture and top seeding.
With two powerhouse programs meeting late in the regular season, plenty is at stake in Omaha.
Millard South enters Friday night ranked No. 1 in Nebraska's Class A rankings from News Channel Nebraska and riding an eight-game winning streak. The Patriots have scored 399 points through eight games, averaging nearly 50 points per contest. They are coming off three consecutive victories by a combined 187-7, including a 65-0 win over Lincoln East on Oct. 15. Five-star quarterback Trae Taylor, a Nebraska commit, has helped power the offense with 31 touchdown passes.
Omaha Westside has been just as impressive, entering the matchup at 8-0 and ranked No. 2 in the same statewide rankings. The Warriors have scored 409 points while allowing just 92, averaging more than 51 points per game. Led by four-star quarterback and Missouri commit Braylen Warren, along with a potent rushing attack featuring Tay Tay Jenkins, Westside is looking to hand its rival its first loss of the season. The Warriors most recently defeated Papillion-La Vista South 49-7 on Oct. 16.
The matchup also carries major postseason implications. Both teams have clinched playoff berths, and Friday's winner will secure at least the No. 2 seed in Nebraska's Class A playoff bracket, with an opportunity to claim the top seed.
