It may be time to get a bigger shelf.
With the holiday season gearing up, kids across the country wait for the Elf on the Shelf — a red-suited elf that is found in silly new spots around the home each day in December.
This year, elves may be easier to spot as Lowe’s has just brought back its 5-foot Elf on the Shelf — and for $149, it could be all yours. Customers have four choices for the famed tradition — and all are completely poseable. So hang from the fan and freak out your kids or throw them up on the roof and let the feet dangle.
All four elves are 5 feet tall and come with different outfits. Two with a white skirt and earrings and the others its signature hat and white collar.
Shoppers can snag the enormous elf at Lowe’s stores or online — but you may want to hurry, as last year the adorable additions sold out quickly. Customers reported the life-sized elf was wiped out due to limited stock and high demand.
One review on Lowe’s failed to get her hands on one last year and scooped one right up the minute she saw.
“We really wanted to buy this large size Elf on the Shelf last year, but Lowe’s completely sold out of them quickly, both in the stores and online,” the reviewer, Cindy, wrote. “To our surprise, our Lowe’s Christmas department is already up, and the elves were on display. Didn’t have to think twice; he went right in our shopping cart. If you really want an elf, buy one soon before they’re sold out.
As of today, the Lowe’s website currently shows that over 500 elves have been purchased this week alone.
Plus, desperate eBay shoppers are already lining up to purchase them for much higher prices as one listing has it going for $280.
Elf on the Shelf has been a December staple since first leaving the North Pole back in 2005. Parents purchase Santa’s “Scout Elf” where they help manage the Nice List. The tradition — families will adopt the elves, let them into their homes and even give it a new name.
Each day, kids find the elf in wacky positions and causing havoc in the home after flying back from the North Pole every night to tell Santa about the day’s adventures.
Some spots kids may find theirs: eating cookies inside the pantry, tangled up in Christmas lights, drawing faces on items in the home and more.
The elves are based on the children’s book “The Elf on the Shelf” written by twin sisters Christa Pitts and Chanda A. Bell, who have since created an entire Santaverse. The magical universe has books, videos and more toys.
