A viral video on Threads appearing to show a Perodua Alza lifted by strong winds at a toll plaza has sparked concern among social media users.
A VIDEO circulating on Threads appears to show a Perodua Alza being lifted by powerful winds at a toll plaza before colliding with other vehicles queuing there.
The video, posted by user @zhaeim, was captioned “Power of Nature”.
The incident prompted concern among social media users, with some comparing the strong winds to a possible tornado and hoping the car owner was safe.
User @n.2121jiji wrote: “Allah… the wind looks so strong that it even lifted the Alza. The wind looks a bit like a tornado. I hope the owner is safe and well.”
Another user, @nahaliqa, urged motorists to consider adding special perils coverage when renewing their car insurance.
“Allahuakbar… Please add Special Perils coverage when renewing your car insurance. Unexpected things can happen in the world today. Tornadoes used to be something we saw only in other countries. Nowadays, they happen in Malaysia too,” she wrote.
Other users offered their own explanations for the weather phenomenon.
User @tribekakchikbookmall attributed the alleged increase in tornadoes in Malaysia to forest degradation, arguing that trees act as windbreaks.
“Among the reasons tornadoes are becoming more common in Malaysia is that our forests are increasingly damaged. Trees in forests actually function as windbreaks. When forests become increasingly bare, the Earth has less resistance against the wind,” the user wrote.
Meanwhile, @wanhaziqhilmi suggested that burning, rising hot air and rain could cause hot and cold air to collide and form a tornado.
“Please be careful during heavy rain. Things are unpredictable now,” the user added.
