FORM Six students will receive a total living allowance of RM2,500 each from next year under Budget 2027, with payments to be disbursed in stages over their three-semester studies.
Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek said the allowance would be distributed during the first semester after registration of Form Six students had been completed.
She said the initiative was part of the government's efforts to strengthen support for pre-university students and improve the quality of Form Six education, particularly their performance in the Sijil Tinggi Persekolahan Malaysia (STPM) examination.
"It will begin next year because this is Budget 2027. Once registration for all Form Six students is completed, we will deliver the assistance in their first semester," she said.
She was speaking after officiating the closing ceremony of the Jelajah Negaraku: Aku Kasih Malaysia programme at Taman Widuri in Nibong Tebal today.
Fadhlina, who is also Nibong Tebal MP, said the government wanted to ensure Form Six students received adequate support for their studies.
"We are very pleased with this budget announcement because this is among our aspirations — to ensure Form Six students receive support for their learning and to improve the quality of STPM," she said.
Under the initiative, about 90,000 Form Six students nationwide will benefit from the RM2,500 allowance, which will be paid in instalments over three semesters.
Prime Minister and Finance Minister Anwar Ibrahim had said the assistance was intended to safeguard the welfare of pre-university students.
The allowance also brings financial assistance for Form Six students in line with the rate received by matriculation students, promoting greater equity in government support for pre-university education. - October 25, 2026
