Borussia Dortmund team news
Borussia Dortmund faces a challenging selection dilemma ahead of today’s clash, with several key players ruled out due to serious injuries.
Head coach Niko Kovač must navigate the absences of Emre Can and Giannis Konstantelias, both of whom are sidelined with crucial ligament tears.
Additionally, Kostas Karetsas is out following an ankle ligament injury sustained against Union Berlin, while Justin Lerma remains unavailable due to ongoing muscular problems.
On a positive note, the rest of the squad emerged completely unscathed from their midweek Champions League triumph over Sabah FK.
Star striker Serhou Guirassy is expected to lead the frontline with immense confidence after netting a crucial brace in Baku.
Kovač has plenty of tactical flexibility remaining, with highly-rated young talents like Ethan Nwaneri, Joane Gadou, and Maximilian Beier all heavily in contention to claim spots in the starting eleven.
Eintracht Frankfurt team news
Eintracht Frankfurt enters the match in a much healthier position, boasting a nearly full-strength squad for manager Adi Hütter.
The only notable absentee for the visitors is forward Jessic Ngankam, who remains sidelined as he recovers from a hamstring injury.
Discipline will be a key focus for midfielder Raphael Onyedika, who enters the fixture on four yellow cards and faces a suspension for the next match if he picks up another booking today.
Aside from these minor concerns, Hütter has excellent squad depth and luxury selection choices at his disposal, particularly in the attacking department.
The manager is widely tipped to deploy an aggressive frontline, potentially pairing the in-form Jonathan Burkardt alongside Younes Ebnoutalib—who has already netted five league goals this season—to test Dortmund’s heavily rotated defensive backline from the opening whistle.
Form
Borussia Dortmund
Borussia Dortmund enters this fixture sitting second in the Bundesliga, remaining unbeaten domestically with four wins and two draws. Despite recently dropping momentum with consecutive league draws against Werder Bremen (2-2) and Union Berlin (0-0), they bounced back in midweek European action, securing a 2-1 Champions League victory over Sabah FK. Built on a rigid defensive foundation, Niko Kovač’s side has conceded just four goals all season.
Eintracht Frankfurt
Eintracht Frankfurt sits eleventh in the standings after an inconsistent opening stretch, collecting eight points from six matches. Their form has fluctuated wildly, bouncing back from a humiliating 6-0 away loss against RB Leipzig to secure a narrow 1-0 win over FC Köln last time out. Adi Hütter’s primary challenge lies in fixing a fragile backline that has leaked 16 goals already this season.
Predicted lineups
Borussia Dortmund: Kobel; Gadou, Anton, Schlotterbeck; Ryerson, Bellingham, Nmecha, Svensson; Nwaneri, Beier; Guirassy
Eintracht Frankfurt: Atubolu; Collins, Koch, Brassier, Kosugi; Doan, Aseko, Onyedika, Chaibi; Burkardt, Ebnoutalib
