The 2016 Bangladeshi film 'Ice Cream' begins streaming on Chorki from midnight on 20 October, more than ten years after its cinema release on 29 April 2016.
Directed by Redoan Rony, the film was the screen debut of Sariful Razz, Nazifa Tushi and Kumar Uday, all of whom have since built established careers. It was Rony's second feature. The streaming release gives audiences who missed the theatrical run, including viewers abroad, a chance to watch the film online.
Rony has said the title reflects the story's central relationship, which he compared to ice cream kept at a fixed temperature: too little and it melts, too much and it freezes. He cast newcomers, he said, because the story called for unfamiliar faces.
Tushi, for whom the film was a first acting role with no prior television or advertising work, said she took it on with little knowledge of the industry but a wish to act. Uday, now working in theatre, recalled the first shoot on St Martin's Island, where the unit jumped into the sea together after wrapping.
The film was produced by Shukla Bonik, Redwan Rony and Salma Adil. Its soundtrack, including the songs 'Boka Chand' and 'Poth', features Arnob, Armeen Musa, Sharmin Sultana Sumi and Minar Rahman. The cast also includes ATM Shamsuzzaman, Diti, Omar Sani, Sayem Sadat and Nadia Khanam.
