The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has placed major airports nationwide on heightened alert following a confirmed case of Ebola Virus Disease in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
In a statement issued by Henry Agbebire, Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection at FAAN, the authority confirmed that it is actively coordinating with the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC), Port Health Services, the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), and other key stakeholders to support national containment measures and protect air travellers.

FAAN emphasised that health officials have already initiated robust public health protocols, including early case identification and extensive contact tracing, demonstrating the effectiveness of Nigeria’s integrated health surveillance systems across air gateways.
“FAAN is maintaining heightened vigilance across airport operations and will continue to coordinate with public health authorities, align its response with further guidance, and support additional measures considered necessary to safeguard passengers, airport personnel, and the wider public,” Agbebire stated.

To maintain calm and prevent panic, the aviation authority urged passengers, airline operators, terminal workers, and the general public to remain vigilant, strictly adhere to airport health screening guidelines, and rely solely on verified updates from official health bodies while refraining from circulating unverified reports.
Reassuring the travelling public, FAAN reaffirmed its operational readiness to maintain safe airport environments and collaborate with health authorities to prevent any potential spread through the nation’s air transport network.
