INEC debunks report of non-display of voters’ register in Lagos

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Lagos has debunked a media report alleging that the display of the register of voters did not take place at some registration area centres in Alimosho and Shomolu local government areas of the state.

The commission, in a press statement issued on Thursday by the Head of its Voter Education and Publicity Department in Lagos, Esther Emeh, described the report aired on ARISE News on Thursday during its What’s Trending segment, presented by Orji Okpe, as false, insisting that the exercise was conducted across all 245 Registration Areas (wards) in Lagos.

According to the commission, the display of the register took place in all Registration Areas across the state, including every ward in Alimosho and Shomolu local government areas.

“The Commission wishes to categorically state that the report is false and does not reflect the actual situation,” the statement said.

INEC urged members of the public to disregard what it described as misleading information and seek clarification through its official communication channels.

The commission also called on media organisations and practitioners to verify information from credible and authoritative sources before publication or broadcast.

It said responsible journalism and accurate reporting were essential to preventing the spread of misinformation and sustaining public confidence in the electoral process.

INEC reaffirmed its commitment to transparency, credible elections and the timely dissemination of accurate information to the public.

The clarification comes as preparations continue for the 2027 general elections, with the display of the voters’ register forming part of the process of enabling eligible voters to verify their registration details ahead of the polls.
