Former Bayelsa State Governor and National Leader of the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC), Henry Seriake Dickson, has met with the party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi, and other senior leaders ahead of the inauguration of its National Campaign Council on Monday.
Dickson disclosed this following his return from an overseas working trip, saying the meeting focused on the state of the party and preparations for the 2027 general elections.
He said he received Obi and former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal, who is also a senior member and leader of the NDC.

According to Dickson, the discussions centred on the party’s readiness for the elections and efforts to ensure that its leaders and candidates work together towards a common goal.
The meeting was later joined by the NDC National Chairman, Senator Moses Cleopas, and members of the party’s National Working Committee (NWC).
Dickson said he subsequently held another meeting with the NWC, with Lawal also in attendance, during which the party’s leadership briefed him on preparations for the official unveiling and inauguration of the National Campaign Council.
He described the discussions as fruitful, expressing satisfaction that the party’s leaders and candidates were united ahead of the elections.
Dickson explained that the campaign council would coordinate the campaigns of all NDC candidates, including those contesting the presidential, National Assembly, governorship and state Houses of Assembly elections.
He said the arrangement was designed to ensure that the party ran a unified campaign, with candidates and leaders at every level actively involved in planning and executing its electoral strategy.
“This will be a campaign for the entire NDC, from top to bottom, with all candidates and party leaders actively involved and taking ownership of the process,” Dickson said.
He added that further consultations would continue ahead of the inauguration, as the party worked to consolidate its structures and prepare for the nationwide campaign.
The former governor assured Nigerians that the party’s leadership remained united and committed to taking its message across the country.
“I assure them that our leaders are united and on the same page, and we will take the NDC message to every nook and cranny of Nigeria,” he said.
Dickson also signalled the party’s intention to begin a more visible nationwide mobilisation following the unveiling of the campaign council.
“From next week, we will paint the whole country blue,” he declared.
The inauguration of the NDC National Campaign Council is expected to mark a significant step in the party’s preparations for the 2027 general elections, with the council tasked with coordinating campaign activities across the country and among candidates seeking elective offices at all levels.
