By A Staff Reporter, Kathmandu, Oct. 17: With the start of Dashain festival, Nepali films are making their way to cinemas.
The festival is considered a favourable time to release films, as it gives filmmakers a chance to recover their investment.
Four films are set to release during Dashain - Aa Bata Aama 2, 12 Gaun 2, Chha Maya Chhapakkai 2 and Kabaddi 5: After Final Match.
Directed by Biraj Bhatta, 12 Gaun 2 was released across the country on Friday. The film features action, family relationships, struggle and revenge. It has initially received 100 shows nationwide.
According to the film's production team, QFX, the country's largest multiplex chain, has allocated 23 shows in the Kathmandu Valley and 22 outside the Valley for Friday. INI, the second-largest multiplex chain, has given the film 16 shows across its outlets nationwide.
Friends Cinemas has allocated 10 shows, One Cinemas eight and Big Movies three. Other multiplexes have yet to announce their schedules.
The film features Biraj Bhatta, Samir Bhatta, Anup Bikram Shahi, Prakash Shah, Sunil Pokharel, Kalu Rana, Krishu Shahi, Barsha Itani, Khusi Karki and Pushkar Bhatta, among others.
Another film, Aa Bata Aama, directed by Chandra Panta, was also released on Friday. Presented by Arya Entertainment, the film stars Paul Shah, Malika Mahat, Bipana Thapa, Rishta Gurung, Nikita Acharya, Akash Shrestha, Sabin Shrestha, Pradeep Rawat, Saigrace Pokharel, Gajit Bista, Naren Khadka and Dilip Akheda, among others.
Panta has written the film's story and screenplay, while Roshan Bhatt and Chandra Panta are credited as writers.
The previous film, Aa Bata Aama, earned more than Rs. 130 million at the domestic box office.
Meanwhile, Chha Maya Chhapakkai 2 is set to release on October 17. The first film in the series was released seven years ago.
Directed by Dipendra Lama, the film features Deepak Raj Giri, Deepa Shree Niraula, Prakash Ghimire, Karma, Rama Thapaliya, Riyan Giri, Maxam Gaudel, Nirmal Sharma and Rabindra Jha, among others.
The film is presented by Aama Saraswati Movies, Rohit Adhikari Films and IME. Rohit Adhikari is the producer, while Nirmal Sharma and Suraj Bam Thakuri are the executive producers.
Director Lama and Deepak Raj Giri developed the story, while Giri wrote the screenplay and dialogues.
The fifth film in the popular Kabaddi series, Kabaddi 5: After Final Match, is scheduled for release on October 23 during Dashain.
The film features Daya Hang Rai, Bijay Baral, Buddhi Tamang, Bipin Karki, Miruna Magar, Srijana Gurung, Rishma Gurung, Bishnu Moktan, Pramila Rai, Suraj Yadav, Ramesh Bajracharya, Hari Mijar, Panchasubba Gurung, Ghanu Joshi, Sumitra Pahim, Anup Neupane, Madhu Mijar, Hemanta Budhathoki, Bikram Shrestha, Saroj Aryal and Shekhar Chapagain, among others.
The film is produced by director Gurung, along with Maniram Pokharel, Madhu Mijar and Bishal Gurung (LG).
