Dobot has launched DOBOT VEGA 7, a seven-axis force-controlled robotic arm designed from the start for embodied AI. The company unveiled it at a product event at the China International Industry Fair in Shanghai, positioning it for wheeled dual-arm robots, mobile manipulation in industrial settings and embodied AI development.
Dobot's main pitch is durability. The company says VEGA 7 has a mean time between failures of 50,000 hours. Every joint has an electromagnetic brake as standard, and in an unexpected power loss the arm can hold its posture and brake within 18 milliseconds. It is rated IP54 for dust and water resistance.
Every joint also carries a torque sensor, which supports contact sensing, compliant control, collision detection and hand-guided teaching. Dobot lists force control accuracy of 0.15N or better, torque control accuracy of 0.05N·m or better and force control resolution of 0.01N·m or better. The company says this makes the arm a development and validation platform for precise plugging and unplugging, small-part assembly and dual-arm coordination.
The core specifications are a rated payload of 7kg, a working radius of 725mm and repeatability of ±0.03mm. The seventh axis adds redundancy, which lets the arm reach the same point in different postures, useful when a target sits deep inside equipment or two arms need to share a tight workspace. Cables run through a large hollow interior, and the end of the arm has two expansion interfaces that support EtherCAT, CAN and RS-485, with 3A rated and 5A peak power output for tools.
Dobot also framed the torque sensing as useful for data collection. When developers record teleoperation or real-robot demonstrations, the joint sensors capture contact forces alongside motion, giving training and debugging another signal beyond video and joint positions.
Two other products shared the stage: PULSA, which Dobot pitched on speed, and the CRH high-performance collaborative robot, aimed at simpler production line deployment. The company did not give pricing or a shipping date for VEGA 7.
