During the 2026 Hajj operation, I had an experience that reinforced the importance of pilgrims always moving with their designated groups. While on duty, I came across an elderly female pilgrim wandering along the roadside in a distressed condition.
She had become separated from her group, could not identify her hotel, and had unfortunately soiled herself after being lost for some time.
I immediately took her to a nearby mosque, where I assisted her in cleaning up and ensuring that she was comfortable. I then tried to obtain information about her accommodation, but she was unable to remember the name or location of her hotel.
Realising that she could not safely find her way back on her own, I handed her over to the NAHCON Field Support Team for further assistance in identifying her group and reuniting her with them.
This experience taught me that moving in groups during Hajj is essential for the safety and welfare of pilgrims. The large crowds, unfamiliar surroundings, and physical demands of Hajj can easily cause pilgrims to become disoriented if they become separated from their groups. It also highlighted the importance of carrying proper identification and paying close attention during pre-Hajj orientation sessions.
The incident strengthened my commitment to serving pilgrims with compassion and reminded me that every act of assistance, no matter how small, contributes to the successful and safe performance of Hajj. I hope this experience will encourage future pilgrims to remain with their groups at all times and follow the guidance provided by Hajj officials to avoid similar situations.
