After two weeks the Florida Power & Light Boys Athlete of the Week award is back.
We delayed last week’s award due to the damage of Hurricane Isaias, so this week’s award will be for the last two weeks of competition.
It’s been nearly two weeks since a boys sports event took place in the Pensacola area, though Pensacola Catholic and West Florida’s cross country teams competed at the New World Fall Spectacular in Jacksonville on Oct. 17 and Pensacola Christian competed at the Randolph Invite the same day.
This week is back to a relatively normal schedule with 10 football games and postseason swimming and diving beginning with the District 1-3A diving championship on Oct. 20 at Booker T. Washington and the District 1-3A swimming championship on Oct. 22 at Frank Brown Park in Panama City Beach.
Even with limited events, there were still plenty of nominees for this week’s award. West Florida swimming’s Joshua Guello won the award two weeks ago, lapping the competition with 87.1% of the vote.
Now it’s time to make your voice heard again. Voting closes at 11 a.m Saturday, and the winners will be announced each Monday after the poll closes. Each weekly winner will be awarded a PNJ Athlete of the Week shirt provided by BSN SPORTS. An athlete can only win one time per season.
Nominees will be accepted via phone or email, but the poll is decided by PNJ staff. Send nominations by Sunday night.
