The blood test report of Suhail Sajeev, the prime accused in the Nedumbassery accident case, has confirmed that he was highly intoxicated at the time of the car crash which killed three youth, according to the police.
According to the test report, the alcohol level in the 19-year-old college student’s blood was five times higher than the legally permissible limit to drive a vehicle, police sources said.
The police received the test reports from the Regional Chemical Examination Laboratory at Kakkanad on Thursday. The report has also been sent to the Judicial First Class Magistrate Court, Angamaly which has remanded all four accused in the case to judicial custody.
“Suhail’s Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC) test has found 160 mg alcohol per 100 ml of blood. It exceeds the permissible limit of 30 mg per 100 ml by over five times. The test also found 230 mg of alcohol in 100 ml of urine,” a senior officer involved in the investigation said.
The officer said the BAC test report of the second accused in the case, Ninav, 19, has also returned positive. The blood and urine samples of the duo were collected within two hours of the accident, the police said. The remaining accused, Ameer and Joel, were arrested later in the day.
The investigators claimed they have gathered adequate evidence to prove that Suhail was driving the vehicle under the influence of alcohol when the fatal accident happened. “There are visuals of him entering the driver’s seat before the ride and exiting after the accident. There are also footage of the accused drinking together before the incident,” the officer said.
The accident, which triggered a public uproar, happened near Nedumbassery in the early hours of October 11. The accused have been lodged at the Borstal school, a correctional facility for adolescent and young adult offenders, at Kakkanad.
