Inspection and demolition of dilapidated public buildings begin in Madurai ahead of northeast monsoon

With the onset of the northeast monsoon, the district authorities have initiated inspection of all government and public buildings and immediate demolition of structures found to be structurally vulnerable.

In order to ensure public safety and prevent administrative disruption, officials have been instructed to secure alternative premises immediately for any offices displaced by demolition work.

Key department heads, including Madurai Corporation Commissioner, Public Works Department Executive Engineer (Buildings), District Rural Development Agency Project Director, Assistant Directors of Panchayats and Town Panchayats, municipal commissioners of Usilampatti, Thirumangalam, and Melur, Joint Director of Collegiate Education, Chief Educational Officer, and Revenue Divisional Officers, have been directed to personally review the structural integrity of buildings under their jurisdiction and submit immediate assessment reports and stability certificates.
