As major militaries across Africa continue to collaborate with partners outside the continent on equipment purchases, some countries in Africa, such as Morocco and Liberia, have decided to establish an intercontinental consortium.
- Morocco and Liberia have established an intercontinental consortium to strengthen military cooperation.
- Morocco recently delivered military equipment to Liberia, including vehicles and supplies, via a C-130 cargo plane.
- The collaboration includes training Liberian soldiers in Morocco and sharing Moroccan military expertise.
- The partnership, formalized in October last year, also involves developing Liberia's military air wing and supporting its Coast Guard.
Morocco, which has become a manufacturing powerhouse, recently partnered with Liberia to deliver some of its domestically produced military equipment and share its military expertise with about 140 Liberian soldiers.
Currently, a C-130 cargo plane from Morocco carrying military supplies is reported to have landed in the West African country.
The cargo plane, which is said to have touched down at the Roberts International Airport on Monday, transported an initial shipment of military vehicles, command units, and operational supplies for the Armed Forces of Liberia (AFL).

This flight represents the first installment of two scheduled missions occurring between October 19 and October 22.
Upon their return, the aircraft are designated to transport military personnel to Morocco for specialized training.
This new development is in light of the military deal both countries signed in Rabat on the 21st of October last year.
Representing Liberia to ink the agreement at the time was Liberia’s Defence Minister, Geraldine Janet George.
Efforts to put the agreement into action gathered pace in September, when the Armed Forces of Liberia (AFL) Chief of Staff, Maj. Gen. Davidson Fayiah Forleh visited Morocco.
He met Gen. Mohammed Berrid to discuss the partnership and signed a memorandum of understanding focused on strengthening the capabilities of Liberia’s military.
The agreement between the two African states extends beyond equipment deliveries and military training, as Morocco intends to aid Liberia in developing a military air wing by training pilots and technical personnel.
Separately, Liberian military delegations have held discussions with the Royal Moroccan Navy and its naval academies about assistance for the Liberia Coast Guard, which helps protect the country’s territorial waters, as seen on The Liberian Investigator.
The two countries are also working with Morocco’s Mohammed V Military Hospital to arrange exchanges between medical personnel and provide access to specialist treatment for members of the Liberian military through the AFL Medical Command.
