RIJEKA, 14 October 2026 – Historic Hotel Jadran has reopened on Rijeka’s Pećine waterfront following an extensive renovation, becoming the first Tribute Portfolio hotel in Croatia, part of Marriott International.
Originally opened in 1914, the seafront property returns with 67 rooms and three suites, combining its historic identity with contemporary design and a stronger connection to the city’s cultural and culinary scene.
Most rooms offer views of the sea and Kvarner Bay. Facilities include a fitness area with a view, sauna facilities, meeting and event space, access to the bathing area and the seasonal Seafront by Jadran bar.
The reopening marks a new chapter for one of Rijeka’s longstanding waterfront landmarks, which has been part of the city’s life for more than a century.
Hotel Jadran first opened on 28 June 1914, together with its adjoining bathing area. From its early days, the property served not only as accommodation but also as a gathering place for residents, travellers, swimmers, rowers and artists.
Its relationship with the sea remains central to the hotel’s identity following the renovation, with terraces overlooking the waterfront and continued access to the bathing area.
The renewed concept, called Port of Discovery, positions the hotel as a starting point for exploring Rijeka, the Kvarner region, local cuisine and the people and culture that shape the area.
Rather than recreating its historic interiors, the renovation takes inspiration from the building’s maritime setting and heritage, bringing these elements into a contemporary hotel environment.
The architectural renovation was designed by Saša Randić, while the interiors were created by internationally recognised designer Saar Zafrir.

The design incorporates deep blue tones, natural materials and maritime details inspired by life on the Adriatic coast, alongside contemporary lines intended to reflect the hotel’s history without reproducing earlier periods.
The hotel also draws on its literary heritage through the story of room 306 and Croatian writer Ivana Brlić-Mažuranić. This connection forms part of a quieter, more creative side of the hotel’s identity, with an emphasis on reading, writing and personal inspiration.
The hotel’s main dining and social venue is doca Restaurant, Bar & Lounge, which is intended to serve hotel guests as well as Rijeka residents and other visitors.
The venue offers contemporary Mediterranean cuisine featuring local ingredients, with service spanning morning coffee, lunch, dinner and cocktails.

Its role extends beyond dining, forming part of the hotel’s ambition to establish itself as a meeting place for both visitors and the local community.
The hotel also offers facilities for business meetings and events, broadening its appeal beyond leisure travellers.
Kristian Šustar, chief executive officer and member of the management board of the hotel group, said the reopening returned one of Rijeka’s best-known seafront locations to the city while connecting it with the international reach of the Tribute Portfolio brand.

He described the investment as an important step for Jadran Hotels Rijeka and a contribution to the year-round tourism offering of Rijeka and Kvarner.
Hotel director Vlatka Stanić said the aim was to create a property that belonged to both its guests and the city, encouraging visitors to discover Rijeka through local recommendations, food, stories and everyday experiences.
The Tribute Portfolio brand is part of Marriott International’s collection of independent-minded hotels, allowing properties to retain their individual character while benefiting from an international hospitality network.
