A group, Convocation of Middle Belt Nations, Thursday, charged the people of the Middle Belt to reject empty political rhetoric and insist on clear, practical and region-specific development blueprints from political parties ahead of future elections.
The declaration was contained in a communiqué issued at the end of the maiden convocation, held at Throneroom Trust Ministries, Kafanchan, Kaduna state.
The communiqué was read by the convener and vision pioneer of the ministry, Dr Emmanuel Nuhu Kure.
The group said any political party seeking the support of the Middle Belt must demonstrate genuine understanding of the region’s peculiar challenges and present actionable plans on insecurity, infrastructure, education, healthcare, economic empowerment, agriculture and inclusive governance.
It warned against the premature endorsement of any political party without a clear agenda for the Middle Belt and urged those who had already taken such positions to reconsider in the collective interest of the region.
It further called for deeper political participation through aggressive voter registration, massive turnout at elections, active contestation for elective offices and deliberate efforts to hold elected officials accountable.
The gathering called for a fundamental shift in consciousness, leadership, unity and collective action among Middle Belt communities to confront the challenges facing the region and Nigeria at large.
It urged communities to define their aspirations, set clear priorities and pursue their legitimate interests with courage, unity and purpose, while overcoming fear, division and passivity.
