The Osun state police command Tuesday announced the arrest of six suspected cultists in Osogbo, the state capital.
The police stated that the arrest followed targeted, intelligence-led raids on identified black spots and criminal hideouts across the state capital.
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Abiodun Ojelabi, in a statement on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Zungura, identified the suspects as Ajibade Lateef (21), Olaniyi Kabiru (27), Ifaleke Ifedeji (18), Tajudeen Wasiu (35), Abideen Babatunde (35) and Opeyemi Lukman (18).
Reaffirming its commitment to safeguarding lives and property, the police vowed that tactical raids on criminal hideouts will continue across Osogbo and the wider state until lasting peace and security are fully established.
Police stated that preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects are members of the Eiye Confraternity and are believed to belong to a notorious criminal gang terrorising residents around the Mackay Junction area of Osogbo.
Items recovered from the suspects include suspected criminal charms, illicit drugs and cash suspected to be proceeds from illicit drug peddling.
Zungura stated that the suspects have been charged to court, adding that the command is intensifying intelligence-gathering and tactical operations to identify, apprehend and prosecute other individuals involved in cultism, drug-related offenses and other crimes across the state.
Reiterating the command’s zero-tolerance stance, CP Zungura warned that Osun will not serve as a safe haven for cultists, drug dealers or criminal elements.
He urged individuals and groups involved in unlawful activities to desist immediately or face the full weight of the law.
