Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma on Wednesday inaugurated a synthetic football turf at Mandalgitok Playground in Siju, South Garo Hills, aimed at promoting football and nurturing local sporting talent.
The facility was first announced during the Captain Williamson Sangma Memorial Football Tournament in October 2023 and is now ready to provide aspiring footballers with improved infrastructure and opportunities to develop their skills.
Following the inauguration, Sangma witnessed an exhibition football match between East Garo Hills XI and South Garo Hills XI, marking the opening of the new facility.
The Chief Minister dedicated the synthetic turf to the youth of South Garo Hills, expressing hope that it would help nurture local talent, inspire future champions and further strengthen Meghalaya’s passion for football.
The new facility is expected to provide a boost to grassroots football development in the district and encourage young players to pursue their sporting ambitions.
