The Mufti of Uganda, Sheikh Shaban Ramadhan Mubaje, has urged Muslim leaders to embrace digital technology to improve communication, research and service delivery within the Muslim community.
The call followed the distribution of Android tablets by the Uganda Muslim Supreme Council (UMSC) to Muslim leaders from East and West Buganda Muslim Regions as part of efforts to modernise the institution's operations under its Ten-Year Strategic Development Plan.
Speaking during the handover ceremony at the UMSC boardroom, Sheikh Mubaje said the devices would help leaders perform their duties more effectively by improving access to information and strengthening coordination across the council's administrative structures.
“We urge you to put them to proper use in order to strengthen communication, do more research and store all kinds of data and other useful information,” Sheikh Mubaje said while handing over the tablets and their accessories.
The beneficiaries included Regional Assistants to the Mufti for East and West Buganda, regional secretaries, members of the Majlis Al-Ulama, representatives of the Shura and Advisory Council, and district Kadhis from the two regions.
Sheikh Mubaje urged the recipients to use the devices responsibly, particularly for research, maintaining institutional records and sharing information between the UMSC headquarters and Muslim leaders at regional and district levels.
The initiative is intended to strengthen the council's ability to access, store and share information as institutions increasingly adopt digital tools to improve administration and service delivery.
UMSC Secretary General Hadji Abbas Muluubya Ssekyanzi described the council's ongoing institutional reforms as unprecedented and urged Muslim leaders to embrace teamwork, commitment and innovation.
Muluubya said implementing the council's development agenda required collective responsibility and dedication from leaders at all levels.
He also encouraged the beneficiaries to use the technological support to improve coordination, administrative efficiency and service delivery to Muslims across the country.
The tablet distribution forms part of UMSC's broader efforts to promote digital literacy among Muslim leaders and strengthen communication within its institutional structures under the Ten-Year Strategic Development Plan.
