Matt Barnes wants Angel Reese to get some more credit despite consistently being compared with Caitlin Clark.
Reese has had a stellar season since being traded to the Atlanta Dream and is just two wins away from winning her first WNBA championship.
But for the last few years, since before she entered the league, Reese has consistently been compared to her rival, Caitlin Clark, ever since they faced off in the NCAA National Championship tournament.
Matt Barnes praises Angel Reese for ‘looking pretty’ in debate against Caitlin Clark
Speaking on Kevin Garnett’s podcast, former NBA star Matt Barnes praised Angel Reese for the way she has performed all season, especially in the WNBA Finals.
He applauded Reese for handling the pressure of the public pitting her against Caitlin Clark very well, and suggested that she has taken her game to another level.
Barnes said: “She’s trending towards Finals MVP if they win it. I feel Angel Reese has got a lot of s*** to get to this point. I think she’s always been pinned up against Caitlin Clark.
“It’s the white Barbie superhero versus the black hood ‘girl.’ She’s out here putting nasty double-doubles. Talking s***, knocking down threes. Looking pretty out there.”
So far in the WNBA Finals, Reese has averaged 18.3 points, 12.3 rebounds, 2.3 assists, 1.8 steals, and 1.5 blocks per game while shooting 47.1% from the field and a staggering 60.0% from beyond the arc.
Perhaps what stands out most to fans is Reese’s efficiency from deep, especially considering how much of a weakness it had been for her.
Should she help lead the Dream to the WNBA Championship, Reese will have a significant edge over Clark in their rivalry.
Not only did Reese help lead LSU to victory against Clark and Iowa en route to the NCAA Championship, but a win for the Dream means she would also boast a WNBA Championship trophy over Clark, who is yet to win a playoff series.
