The Seattle Seahawks suffered their second loss of the season to the San Francisco 49ers in Week 5, and saw their standing among the league’s best teams diminish after the slate of games around the league.
Bleacher Report’s NFL experts ranked the Seahawks No. 6 overall in their most recent power rankings following the Week 5 slate.
“The reigning champions must regroup,” Bleacher Report’s Maurice Moton said. “The Seattle Seahawks are turning the ball over at an alarming rate—nine giveaways over the last four weeks,” Since Sam Darnold returned from injury, he's been part of the problem, throwing five interceptions in his last three outings.”
Seattle lost 32-29 to San Francisco on Sunday, dropping to 3-2 on the season. The defeat revealed areas for improvement for the Seahawks as the team look to maintain its position among the NFC’s top contenders. Turnovers and late-game execution hindered Seattle from capturing the win.
In the NFC West, the Seahawks sit second behind the undefeated 49ers, who improved to 5-0. Seattle remains ahead of the Los Angeles Rams (2-3) and Arizona Cardinals (1-4) in the division standings. Across the NFC, the Seahawks sit just outside the playoff picture as the No. 8 overall seed, with opportunities to strengthen their postseason position in upcoming matchups on their schedule. However, the competitive division leaves little room for extended slumps.
Seattle now turns its attention to a Thursday night matchup against the Denver Broncos in Week 6. A strong response stands to help the Seahawks regain momentum, improve their standing in the conference race and demonstrate their ability to compete with the NFL’s top teams as the season progresses.
