Tennessee football fans let Alabama hear it in the Volunteers' 26-10 victory over the Crimson Tide on Saturday, Oct. 17. And the Volunteers have the decibel record to prove it.
Tennessee's official X (formerly Twitter) account announced on Tuesday, Oct. 20 that Neyland Stadium reached the highest scientifically verified decibel reading in college football history, at 130.3 decibels, during the game. As noted by Knox Knews, part of the USA TODAY Network, the previous record for Neyland Stadium was set in Tennessee's 2022 win vs. Alabama, at 125.4 decibels. The previous college football record was set in 2007, when Penn State hosted Ohio State.

The record moment occurred in the third quarter as Tyree Weathersby sacked Alabama quarterback Keelon Russell on second down to bring up third-and-11. Neyland Stadium blared DJ Snake/Lil Jon's "Turn Down for What" over the speakers, with the home crowd happy to oblige. The result was a 5-yard delay of game penalty that saw Tennessee drive Alabama even further back.

The real-life equivalent to 130 decibels is a jackhammer, air horn, siren or a jet engine at close range.
Neyland Stadium had previously been on top-10 lists for loudest college football stadiums, with reports indicating it was responsible for 137 decibels in Tennessee's 2023 game vs. Georgia. However, those results could never be scientifically measured — unlike the 2026 edition of the "Third Saturday in October."
