After going 1-3 in four preseason games, the Charlotte Hornets got off on the right foot Wednesday, downing the Brooklyn Nets in their season opener 110-103. This marks the second year in a row in which Charlotte prevailed over the Nets in their season opener, cruising to a 136-117 victory at the Spectrum Center a season ago.
Wednesday night's win was a well-rounded effort, as five Hornets finished with 17 or more points, including Grayson Allen, who led the team with 21 off the bench. Trade acquisition Naz Reid added a near triple-double, finishing with 20 points, 11 rebounds, seven assists and just one turnover. Moussa Diabate was dominant on the defensive end, finishing the night with 17 points on 7-for-11 shooting to go along with eight rebounds, three assists and a whopping five steals. Following a new contract extension, Brandon Miller added 18, while Dennis Schroder tallied 19 points after entering the starting lineup in place of the injured Coby White.
With a perfect start, the Hornets will head back to Charlotte for their home opener at the Spectrum Center. They'll face the Atlanta Hawks Friday, Oct. 23, and the Miami Heat Saturday, Oct. 24, on the second night of a back-to-back.
