A People’s Defence Force (PDF) member was killed during two airstrikes carried out by the Myanmar Air Force in Wuntho Township, Sagaing Region, on Tuesday.
The PDF told DVB that fighting with regime forces took place in Wuntho after troops advanced from neighboring Indaw Township’s Maiza village, which was recaptured on Oct. 9 after being seized and held by the PDF since April 2025.
Wuntho is located 35 miles (55 km) southwest of Indaw and 181 miles (291 km) north of the region’s capital Monywa.
A regime counteroffensive was launched from Indaw toward Wuntho in early September to regain control of strategic positions along the Shwebo-Myitkyina road and railway, which serve as primary transit arteries linking Sagaing Region to Kachin State.
Two civilians were killed and two trucks were destroyed by airstrikes in Indaw on Sept. 23.
On May 1, regime forces recaptured Indaw town from the PDF. Indaw, located 209 miles (336 km) north of Monywa, was seized by the PDF along with support from the Kachin Independence Army (KIA) on April 7, 2025.
