HomePod owners, have you ever wished you could disable touch controls on the top of your device? With iOS 27.2, Apple is finally adding that option. Here are the details.
HomePod touch controls can be disabled with ‘Lock Controls’ setting in iOS 27.2
If you have ever had an issue with your HomePod and phantom touches, or perhaps like me you have a young child, you may have wished for a way to disable touch controls.
According to leaker pdfu, that option is officially coming with iOS 27.2 and HomePod 27.2 next week.
— pdfu (@itspdfu) October 19, 2026All HomePod models will support the Lock Controls setting, according to HomePod software 27.2 RC.
You should see the setting in the Home app after updating both HomePod and iPhone. https://t.co/lAPVuRg3av
As seen in the screenshot above, iOS 27.2 adds a new setting for ‘Lock Controls’ inside the Home app’s HomePod accessory settings. When enabled, here’s what it does per Apple:
Prevent HomePod from playing audio or taking action when the top cap is touched. Intercom, timers, alarms, Check In and FaceTime calls will still respond to touch.
If you control your HomePod primarily through your iPhone or another device, Lock Controls is a great option to have. Particularly if you have toddlers or cats at home, or if your HomePod experiences phantom taps, you might want to disable touch interactions.
As pdfu’s post today says, this new setting is coming to all HomePod models, even the first-gen HomePod from 2018.
