KUALA LUMPUR: The Budi Belia programme, which offers a RM100 e-wallet incentive to youths who actively participate in volunteer activities, is expected to serve as a catalyst in shaping a future generation of leaders with integrity and a sense of responsibility.
Youth and Sports Minister Dr Mohammed Taufiq Johari said the initiative, announced through Budget 2027, was not merely a token of appreciation for active youths but also an important platform for cultivating sensitivity and concern for society.
“Actually, shaping a good leader starts with sensitivity and care, and all of this can be attained if we become volunteers. That is why next year, the government believes that by building great volunteers, we will in turn shape even greater leaders,” he said when appearing as a guest on the Ruang Bicara programme produced by Bernama TV on Thursday.
Meanwhile, the Sungai Petani Member of Parliament said youth involvement in volunteer activities also served as a training ground for building self-confidence, communication skills and the ability to manage various situations.
He noted that many current leaders had backgrounds in volunteerism, including participation in international volunteer missions and programmes.
In another development, Mohammed Taufiq encouraged more young people to join youth organisations as a way to strengthen their leadership and organisational management skills.
He said the Ministry of Youth and Sports (KBS) worked closely with the Malaysian Youth Council (MBM) and various youth organisations nationwide to expand opportunities for young people to participate in youth development activities.
He added that eligible youth organisations could also apply for the Geran Sejati MADANI grant of up to RM100,000 this year to implement various youth development initiatives.
