A Detective Inspector attached to the Khairatabad police station was arrested by the Saidabad police following a complaint from a woman accusing him of sexually exploiting her on the false promise of marriage for several years.
The accused, M. Balaswamy, 42, a 2009-batch police officer, was arrested and remanded to judicial custody after the woman, an employee of the Women and Child Development Department, approached the Saidabad police.
According to the police, the woman, aged 40, alleged that she had known Balaswamy since 2017, when they came into contact through work. She claimed that he maintained physical relationship with her by promising to marry her. She further alleged that Balaswamy told her he was divorced and would marry her. However, she later discovered that he was still married and had a son.
Police said the woman, who has two children, lost her husband in 2021 due to ill health. She alleged that Balaswamy continued the relationship even after her husband’s death, assuring her that he would marry her. When she confronted him and insisted that he fulfil his promise, he reportedly refused, prompting her to approach the Saidabad police.
Based on her complaint, the police registered a case against Balaswamy, arrested him on Saturday and produced him before a court, following which he was remanded to judicial custody.
