Free State police are searching for a man who allegedly raped 28-year-old woman in the early hours of Monday in Heilbron, Free State.
The South African Police Service (SAPS) said the incident occurred at about 1.30am on October 19, after the woman woke up while in bed with her boyfriend to use the toilet.
Police spokesperson Constable Kelello Patsa said the woman encountered her boyfriend’s friend, known as Dibabo, as she approached the toilet.
“It is further alleged that the suspect instructed the victim not to make a noise, dragged her, covered her mouth, and raped her,” Patsa said.
The suspect allegedly instructed the woman to wash herself after the incident.
Police said the woman remained frightened and that the suspect reportedly accompanied her to her place of residence.
“Only after the suspect had left the victim reported the matter at Heilbron Police Station,” Patsa said.
Police collect evidence as investigation continues
Members of the Local Criminal Record Centre (LCRC) attended the scene and recovered a cloth allegedly used by the suspect.
The woman was interviewed in the Victim Friendly Room before being taken to a local hospital for a medical examination.
Police confirmed that the investigation was continuing.
“The investigation continues, and the suspect is still at large,” Patsa said.
