The Los Angeles Rams can’t catch a break on special teams: Kicker Blake Grupe is doubtful to return to the Rams’ matchup against the Arizona Cardinals are sustaining a knee injury from attempting a tackle.
Just days after he signed with the team as a free agent, Grupe started for Los Angeles on Sunday, scoring a field goal in the first quarter. But on the kickoff, Grupe broke up a 40-yard return from Devin Duvernay by knocking the Cardinals receiver out of bounds — and appeared to pay for it.

Grupe went into the locker room, before he was eventually ruled doubtful. With no other kicker on the roster, punter Ethan Evans is likely to fill in if the Rams need to attempt a field goal or extra point.

Grupe was signed by the Rams earlier this week as a free agent, replacing Harrison Mevis as the starting kicker. Los Angeles waived Mevis after he missed two field goals (though one was blocked) in last week’s three-point loss to the Buffalo Bills.
