(ANSA) - ROME, 21 OTT - President Sergio Mattarella said Wednesday that broad, long-term strategies are needed to address the malaise of young people following last weekend's shocking rioting in Milan.
"We need a broad vision that, alongside necessary short-term decisions, proposes appropriate strategies to address the unease, the sense of insecurity about the future that young people often feel, and the fear of subjugation or marginalization," Mattarella said during the ceremony for the Order of Merit for Labour award.
"This is all the more true in these tumultuous, uncertain times".
During his address, the head of State also lamented: "senseless wars of aggression, the undermining of international law, protectionist barriers, neo-imperialist policies, insecurity on maritime routes, the resulting energy price hikes that fuel inflation, and neo-monopolistic demands.
"All these reckless phenomena are having severely negative effects on value chains and the freedom of trade, and are impacting the very freedoms of our way of life, with so-called tycoons, who show no regard for the rules of the international community, whether national or supranational, and make absurd and unacceptable demands in key sectors of international life," he added.
